Invitations

1st April 2015

A little present for my two favourite couples…

This year my mum and dad are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary and my grandparents their 50th… so of course that means it’s party time! As a present to them I offered to design the invitations. I love getting to work on things like this as I get to make them nice and personal, and it gives me the chance to experiment with different design styles and print methods.

As these wedding anniversaries are represented by Gold and Silver it only seemed right to incorporate that into the invitations. I really wanted to get them foil printed as this gives a gorgeous finish, but unfortunately I discovered this costs an arm and a leg!

However, stubborn as I am I wasn’t ready to give up on this idea. So I did my research into alternative ways I could produce a shiny/metallic finish without the extortionate cost and I found a way! So here’s how I did it…

Invitations on screen

I started by creating the invitations on screen, after lots of ideas I settled on the design. The areas I wanted to stand out were the heart thumbprints, so I created artwork that would turn these into custom made stamps for the front of the invitations.

I found this brilliant company www.englishstamp.com that creates the customised stamps, they also supplied metallic ink, meaning I could get the luxury finish I wanted without the high cost! :)

So once the stamps, ink and the printed invitations had arrived it was time to start stamping…

I turned my dining room into a production line as me and my very helpful housemates stamped all 150 invitations and waited for them to dry!

Once all the invitations were complete I gave them to my parents and grandparents and they were very pleased with them… they’ve just got the lengthy task now of writing them all, while I look forward to the party!

I’m going to be quiet on the design front for the next couple of weeks as I’m jetting off to explore… BRAZIL!! Hopefully I’ll come back with lots of inspiration for new projects!

It is great to have such a talented and creative grand daughter, especially when your Golden Wedding celebrations are drawing close.
